I'm so happy to be exchanging with Sonya from Saving Everyday with Sonya K for my first #AskAwayFriday of the year!!  I'm so eager to get into Sonya's questions...let's just do it!!

1.  I watched your YouTube video where you told everyone "What I Got For Christmas".  What was your favorite gift?  I'd probably have to say my new cameras!  I really want a DSLR but because I'm saving for it my husband really heard me talking about how I needed new cameras!  He's such a smart one!

2.  My family always eats black-eyed peas and greens or cabbage on New Years as a sign of the prosperity you hope to have for the upcoming year.  Does your family eat anything special on New Years Day?  Nope.  I've never heard that one to be honest and none of those things are foods that I or my kids would probably eat.  I was sick yesterday (and today) so my husband made some Crock-Pot chicken which was pretty good but I don't have any traditions for New Years Day.
3.  What is your favorite movie from 2013?  Oh wow, probably "Prisoners".  My husband and I saw it when we were having our last day in Seattle from our Alaska trip.  It was REALLY good.  It was a hard movie to watch as a parent but it made me wonder what would I do if someone took one of my girls?  Would I wait for the cops or would I take it into my own hands and what the repercussions of that might be.

4.  You get to review a lot of cool stuff.  What is your favorite review so far?  I'm obsessed with beauty so there's always that.  I mean my husband loves it if I don't have to spend money on "more beauty stuff" haha

5.  Pancakes or Waffles?  Depends.  This morning in our house we had waffles (just the frozen kind)...the girls love them.  But if I'm out and eating at a restaurant probably pancakes.
6.  I've read your post about The 1-OH!-1 Experience.  Are you nervous sharing this with your viewers?  To be honest, once I posted the introduction I got really nervous.  I've never minded putting my life out there before but this did give me a brief moment of hesitation.  However, I'm a mom and I couldn't be a mom (for the most part) without sex.  Also, I believe that there are many women who benefit from me sharing this experience.  Once I posted the introduction and got about 4 or 5 positive comments on the blog and Facebook I got less nervous.  I don't think I'll be 100% without nerves until I post the 1st two experiences and see the feedback on it.  But I am really excited to be on this path with my husband and giving it the best shot!

7.  Have you ever made the same New Years Resolutions two years in a row?  If so, what was it?  I think the most common one is "losing weight" or "getting healthy".  This year I plan to do the same but implement it in a different way.  This year I decided to also make GOALS not resolutions.
8.  What is your favorite current make up trend?  I don't think this one ever goes away but a red lip is always amazing.  You can literally put on a little foundation, do your brows, have on mascara but a red lip makes it look like you took forever putting yourself together!  It's my go to if I need to get ready in a hurry!

9.  Online or in-store shopping?  For clothes I prefer in-store shopping only because everyone "makes" clothing different, even jeans you have to try on most of the time these days.  I will shop online though for electronics or beauty.

10.  I feel like I've changed a lot since becoming a mom.  What changes in your life have surprised you the most in becoming a mom?  I feel like I always knew I'd have to give up "me time" but I never realized that it would disappear all together!  Even time with my husband is on halt until the girls go to bed.  Sure we can have a conversation but we can't really "talk" until they are asleep.  Being a SAHM and a mom in general is the hardest job I've ever had.  I've gotten pretty good at juggling it all but I don't think anyone is "prepared" to be a mom until they are one.

Awesome job Sonya!  Love all the questions!  Thank you so much for being my partner this week!

  1. Thanks for letting me co-host. Black-eye peas and something green like cabbage or green is big in the South. Almost everyone eats it on New Year's Day. They serve it in the hospitals and homeless shelters too on New Year's Day.

  2. I'm 10 years into this mom thing and I feel like I am just starting to get my "me time" back. I am trying really hard to reclaim my identity as a person and not just a mom & wife. Not that I dislike those roles-I love them!! But I feel like I can do a better job at both of those if I take some time to stay in touch with myself.

  4. Oh the black-eyed peas and cabbage is a southern tradition! LOL

I think we can all relate to the 'me time' issue. Anytime a trip to the grocery store alone is relaxing you know it's time for a Momma Day..LOL

We saw PRISONERS around the same time and we talked about it then...I still cringe with that movie...It's awesome but like you said difficult to watch...

I'm so proud of you for the 1-OH-1 Series...! I think it is amazingly brave and awesome of you to do something like this and I can't wait to see where it takes you...

You guys had a great swap this week! Great questions and answers :D

  5. I'm not sure I'll ever really get my "me" time back. Or at least it feels that way having a 4 month old and a 4 year old. Maybe someday, I suppose !

  6. True enough, no one can ever be too ready to be a mom! I love some me-time too! And you're right that red lips can give someone an instant glow! ;)

  7. We do the cabbage and black eyed peas too! My mother is serious about it every year!!! I must agree I didnt realize that "me" time would be so hard to come by once I became a mother. I vow this year to take more time for myself! Even if its only an hour or something...I have to do it!

  8. Being a mom is the hardest job I've ever had as well. I know it's not supposed to be seen as a job but some days you have to look at it that way. Since my husband and I were both married before I feel like my responsibilities as wife and mom are a little different. Bryan never experienced me without kids so we look forward to our alone time more than ever. Thanks for sharing this week!!

  9. I couldn't agree more, that being a mom is the hardest job I've had as well...but oh so worth it as a whole. I do wish for a bit more me time, but oh well. While losing weight is a definite goal for me too, but more is to get healthier. Once I accomplish the latter, the former will take care of itself. Have a great week!

  10. Being a SAHM does make your free time vanish! I agree with you…in-store shopping is necessary for jeans. My family had the traditional meal that Sonya talked about for New Years, it was delicious!
