#AskAwayFriday #23
1/09/2014
For those of you who aren't familiar with #AskAwayFriday it's an amazing way to meet new bloggers, make friends and ask some questions to get to know them better! 10 questions are exchanged and answered on your partners blog, you can get as creative as you want and even get into our purses!
As always, tried and true we have the partners in crime, the ladies who created #AskAwayFriday...the wonderful Penny from The Real Housewife of Caroline County and Amber from Bold Fab Mom!!
Our co-hosts for the month of January are here as well! All new ladies who have been wonderful additions to #AskAwayFriday! Show them some love by stopping by their blogs!
Cheers to Week 2 of AAF in January and trading questions with our 2nd co-host for the month Sarah from The Redemption Diary. Let's see what Sarah had to ask and get right into it!
1. When did you first feel the need to write down your words and share them with others? I think it was around the beginning of 2013. I started my blog in March 2013 and been going strong since then. It was more about sharing our family at first but it's grown into a whole different creature these days!
2. How has blogging changed the way you look at social media? Social media used to be entertainment for me. Now it's part of my job with the blog world. I definitely associate more with my blog partners than I do with the more anonymous Twitter users I used to follow and tweet.
3. What is your favorite social media outlet? I'd say Instagram. I love taking pictures of my girls and I can share blog photos with Instagram too. I like Twitter for it's quick movement and Facebook is great for interacting with people both friends and blog alike!
4. If you could give a new mom one piece of advice what would it be? Don't be afraid to ask for help. We all need it. I needed it a lot more than others dealing with PPD and PPA. It's not shameful to ask a friend, grandparent or husband for help with the baby. You aren't perfect, no new mom is.
5. For those of us in the dark about using beauty products (yes, that would be me) what basic products would you suggest using? I would say start with a BB Cream for "foundation". A lot of times it correct the problems you have and come in pretty universal shades like Light/Medium/Dark. Wet N Wild makes some great eyeshadow trios that actually tell you where to put the shadow. Mascara is a must! You can't really go wrong with mascara just get waterproof. Start with lip glosses or lip crayons if you aren't skilled with lipsticks and pencils. E.L.F. (found at Target) is a great brand for those starting out. Everything is $1-$6 including brushes and they have awesome products.
6. Is there anything you don't share in your life with your readers? I used to not share our sec life but now I'm even doing that with The 1-OH1-1 Experience! I like being an open book. Who really cares? I know my life, I know I'm happy and I know what's the truth so I don't think much about sharing my life and what people think of it.
7. Why do you blog? I blog for me. It's a creative outlet. I also blog just to share my experience, my journey and who I am with the world.
8. What personality trait does your husband value most in you? Hubby says it's my honesty. He never has to question how I feel about something. I pretty much speak my mind and say what I need to say. He doesn't have to be a mind reader with me because I'll usually tell him exactly what I'm thinking.
9. What personality trait do you most value in him? No matter what, he can make me smile. I can be rip roaring mad, angry at the world or crying my eyes out and he can always make it better. His laughter is infectious and his sense of humor is like no one else I've met. He's just a good person through and through.
10. How do you juggle kids, blogging and marriage? I don't (just kidding!). It's taken me about 10 months but we are in a schedule. I blog when the kids nap and after everyone is asleep (even my husband). There are moments where it consumes more time than I need but thankfully the girls can entertain themselves and play together more now. The only time it ever really affects us is when I take a picture. Hubby will say "for the blog?" with a weird look on his face. He doesn't get the blog world but he's happy that I'm being creative and doing something that I'm good at!
Great job Sarah! I love my questions! I hope I helped a little with the makeup stuff. Make sure you head over to The Redemption Diary to see what Sarah's answers to my questions were (I asked for a sneak peak into her purse!). Have a great weekend everyone!!

I haven't quite gotten the hang on Instagram yet. I think it's fun to look at other people's pictures, but I don't know how to get to know people there. I'm still addicted to facebook for most things!
ReplyDeleteI love IG...I'm definitely obsessed!
DeleteI don't have a clue when it comes to make-up so I'm going to take your advice about the bb cream.
ReplyDeleteI'd say my top ones are Garnier and Ponds BB from the drugstore!
DeleteI wish instagram was more user-friendly as far as ways to share. Maybe I just need a tutorial :-) I want to like it!
ReplyDeleteSarah, awesome questions. I think I may have to refer back to your make-up tips, Penny! I'm for sure in Sarah's boat when it comes to beauty products. ;) Fun times here, girls. xo
ReplyDeletethanks for stopping by!
DeleteI, too, wish that Instagram was more user and PC friendly. I don't like that I have to transfer pics from my camera to facebook and then on to Instagram, it just takes too much time. I am going to have to check out your 1 OH! 1 Experience, very interesting! You go girl! LOL! ;) I generally don't bother with make-up, it is the one girly thing that I just never really got into. :) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteGreat answers as always Penny! I would say I love your honesty too :) Instagram is becoming my second favorite Media to Twitter...I love that I can share almost anything with a snap and a few words :)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to concentrate more on Instagram this year! I'm starting to take more pictures with my phone...I'm pretty addicted to my DSLR! Great to get to know you better!
ReplyDeleteI want a DSLR!
DeleteHi Penny,
ReplyDeleteGreat questions and I love the answers.
I am not to good on the social side, especially when going on blog hops, don't know what my addresses, are, but I am new at this and guess I will learn.
I hope that you ave a fantastic day.
Love and best wishes.
Anne
Hey Penny, thanks so much for trading with me this week! I enjoyed reading your answers and surprisingly enough I do have several E.L.F. products. My sis bought makeup for me one Christmas when E.L.F. was only online. Thanks for being open and honest!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for exchanging with me!
DeleteELF has such an amazing line of products that are really quality and low in cost. Love all your answers as usual!!

Thanks for hosting as always and cheers to an awesome 2014! I missed last week's #AAF, but happy to back on again with Heather from The Frill of Life. Blogging is my creative outlet, too. I commend you for being so open on your 1-OH-1 Experience series. I would NEVER have the courage to write about such intimate topics, plus my mom and in-laws are the #1 readers of my blog. So that's awesome that you do!
ReplyDeleteIt's always hard to get on a schedule when you're juggling more than one thing! I've struggled with it the past few months myself, but I'm getting better now! :-)
ReplyDeleteI think every SAHM juggles time, especially when I read other blogs of sahm's! I love blogging and although I have been at it for a while I feel like I am just figuring out where this is going!
ReplyDeleteYou know I agree with the ELF line...I love their line! And their brushes are some of my favorites...over some of my more expensive brushes!
I'm so excited about linking up for the first time! I love reading your beauty advice - I am clueless about that stuff. I've never tried BB Cream, but you may have me convinced. And as a mom of a new baby (5 mo old) I think your advice about getting help for PPD is very good. It's nothing to be ashamed of!
ReplyDeleteDon't be afraid to get help...it's the best thing I did and even better was being open about what I was dealing with so family could help.
DeleteYou're like one of my top Instagram likers. I love it. :)
ReplyDeleteI like using Instagram but still use it sparingly. ;) I need to start using it more, it is supposed to be a huge deal in 2014.
