Review: The Honest Kitchen Dog Food
11/15/2013
Disclaimer: The products in this post were sent to me for my review. All opinions are my own.
Since becoming dog owners David and I have tried numerous brands to make sure that our dogs are getting the best health out of their food. This meant cutting out chicken by products and other nasty preservatives that they didn't need. We went from Pedigree to our new favorite which is Blue Buffalo. The dogs don't even chew their food anymore they just inhale it, that's how much they enjoy it!I got sent a sample of The Honest Kitchens dehydrated dog food product and since I don't often include the dogs in the blog I would this time. I'm sure there are animal lovers out there who read my posts!
The name of the sample we got was Force. It is described on The Honest Kitchen site as "a gluten-free recipe, made with free range chicken and fresh produce like potatoes, celery and green beans. Force is moderate in protein and fat so it's perfect for adult maintenance, senior dogs and dogs that need a lower calorie diet".
So the instructions read to empty the contents of the packet into the dog bowl and add 1/3 cup of water. Since we have 2 dogs I split it up 50/50 same with the water. Once you have it mixed up it says to wait 5 minutes. I probably waited about 3 or 4 because there was a strong smell with it. However, once I put it down the dogs went nuts, I thought they ate their dry food fast...they didn't even blink before consuming this stuff! As you can see they were begging for more but I only had the one sample.
For me, these products are great for dogs with more specialty needs but our dogs seem pretty happy on Blue Buffalo and I know they are getting good nutrition through it. The cost also isn't exactly something I'm willing to pay. If I were to get another sample or see it on sale I might do it as an addition to their normal meals as a bonus but I don't think I will switch them to this full time. I can appreciate what the company is trying to do as well in giving the best products to our furry friends!
What do you feed your furry friends? Have you tried The Honest Kitchen? Is there a brand that you would like us to try or recommend?
