I like to think that I’ve “been there, done that” and in all honesty I probably have. Sure, I haven’t dealt with colic but damnit I’ve seen all these levels in some aspect and thought I’d share my insight.
The Not Quite There Yet
This weekend was a fun one for us both as a couple and as a
family…Saturday morning my mom came down to visit us around 10 AM (which we
woke up at just 10 AM…of course it’s the one day the kids chose to sleep in),
she is heading out of the country to Germany for a post-birthday
celebration
and will not be here for Hannah’s actual 2nd birthday so she kind of
got her own celebration.
For those of you who don’t know, Hannah’s quite the water
baby, always has been. Since her first
bath she’s really loved water and anything to do with it. So since she loves the water my mom got her a
½ water, ½ sand play table, which is actually kind of useful since whenever we
go on our back deck Hannah likes to go straight to the stairs so hopefully this
will deter her from doing that.
Along with her stand up pool/sand table she got some books,
some major over-sized bubble wands and a gardening set (pink with purple polka
dots) to help mommy and daddy outside in the yard…all exactly what I asked
for…smart, practical and useable gifts.
After gift time we headed over to a local restaurant and had
lunch…hubs and moms both had steak and cheese while Hannah and I shared chicken
tenders (she eats more fries than the tenders).
For dessert my mom had brought a crazy chocolate cake, I mean this thing
was chocolate on chocolate on chocolate with another layer of chocolate…and of
course Hannah LOVED it! Later in the
“evening” David and I had tickets to a Orioles v Blue Jays at 7:05 (they were a
Father’s Day gift from his mom), however after my mom left and we dropped the
girls at my in-laws we realized the game had been moved to 4:05 pm…WHAT?? So we had to jump in the car and
go…go…go!
David and I have always said that because we had kids so
early into our relationship and marriage (Hannah was born 11 months and 8 days
into our relationship and 2 months before we got married)…that we really
treasure the moments we get to just be alone and have some fun together,
especially post-pregnancy fun where I can actually drink :) We arrived at the game just a little into the
2nd inning, grabbed some hot dogs and a couple of beers and headed
to our seats…as soon as we sat down the Orioles hit their 1st home
run of the game! Sadly, by the end of
the 8th when it was a 7-2 lead with the Blue Jays winning we decided
to leave and head to one of our favorite restaurants Don Pablo’s…it’s a Tex-Mex
restaurant, David loves the Queso Blanco (white cheese dip) and I crave the
chicken fajitas….YUMMO! Plus I had 2 $10 off coupons so we ate for dirt cheap!!
Since the game was early, dinner was early and we got home
early so we hit the couch, turned on a movie, spent some couple time together
then it was definitely bed time since we had to get the girls by 9 AM on
Sunday. As much as I love one on one
time with my hubby I miss my girls like crazy so when we scooped them up on
Sunday but since they didn’t sleep much at my in-laws we put them down for naps
and David set up Hannah’s birthday present and when Hannah got up from her nap
she was so happy, we even set up our little pink plastic pool next to it…like I
said before Hannah LOVES the water! She
spent probably a good hour to hour and a half outside playing with her toys
before it was just too hot for mommy and daddy to stay outside any longer, even
the dogs were over the heat…they wouldn’t even get into the pool because the
water got so warm from the heat outside.
We finished off the evening with some steaks on the grill, a
couple baked potatoes loaded up and a nice romaine salad…pretty dang tasty, as
was the rest of the weekend!
Looking forward to another week…this week Savannah will be
9 months and Hannah will be turning 2…lots of blogs this week on those two
subjects…have a great week everyone!
I remember being pregnant with Hannah and watching literally 100's of videos on "What's in my Hospital Bag" or "What's in my Diaper Bag"...I watched them constantly comparing the bags, what was inside them and which items I could afford or already had from my baby shower. I'm still slightly obsessed with these videos, but that's just the nosey in me :)
I always felt with Hannah that I over packed my diaper bag, I literally needed a bottle, diapers and some formula and I would have been fine so when we had Savannah I tended to under pack which made it easier to use one diaper bag for 2 girls. Hannah's almost 2 now (2 in 2 weeks *sad face*) so all she really needs are diapers and a couple changes of clothes so most of what I keep in the bag now is over packing again for Savannah.
The bag I'm currently using is an Eddie Bauer diaper bag, I think I got it from Babies R Us or Target maybe, I can't really remember but I've only ever bought 2 diaper bags and they were never over $40 so it probably falls in the $25-$40 range. Since I have girls obviously I needed pink but the grey makes it more wearable. The outside of the bag has 3 pockets in the front, 2 slightly larger pockets on the sides and one large slit on the back.
In the front 3 pockets I keep the following...on the right side I have a comb for the girls hair (mostly Hannah's), a squeezable yogurt (for Hannah or Savannah) and if Savannah wants it I have a screw on spoon that attaches to where the yogurt squeezes from, this keeps it a little less messy. In the middle pocket I have my wallet (Mr. Louis Vuitton - a gift from my husband, I love that man) this is in the middle pocket instead of inside the bag so it's always accessible to me, probably not the smartest safety reason in the world but oh well it works for me. And in the left pocket I have some puffs for Savannah, these ones are the Sweet Potato flavor which she really enjoys.
The 2 pockets on the side are a little larger, on one side I keep a bottle for Savannah (sometimes I'll fill this with warm water if I know she will be eating shortly after us leaving the house). The other pocket is usually where my keys, phone, lip gloss, lip balm...it's kind of my mom pocket.
The rear slit or pocket houses a diaper changing pad (this one is from a previous diaper bag but it's so sturdy and the right size I couldn't part with it), a receiving blanket that I use as a burp rag or clean up rag, a waterproof bib for Savannah and a teether to keep Savannah occupied and play with (she's mostly a pacifier kid).
Inside the bag looks a little crazy but it's really not, it's mostly clothes (aren't they always the culprit of a messy space?). Inside I keep a couple changes (usually 2) for each girl just in case of an accident, one of those outfits I keep in this clear bag which doubles as a wet or messy clothes holder if there are any accidents. When we had Hannah one of the nurses gave me a goodie bag that had this polka dot diaper holder, I keep 4 diapers for each girl in this, keeps diapers from flying everywhere even if it only reads Hannah on the top (when she was in daycare I had to write her name on everything). Also to accompany the diapers you need....wipes, of course! Right now I'm trying some different brands so I've been buying the individual ones but I think I've settled on Huggies Natural Care for now, not too wet but get the job done and softer. A pink 3 portioned formula dispenser is for Savannah, right now she's drinking 6 oz bottles so each slot has 3 scoops of formula in it. Finally, I have a little Ziploc baggie that I keep some Wet Ones for cleaning up messes or wiping down a table/highchair, some aquaphor, lotion, baby powder, diaper rash cream and lotion from (Aveeno).
Again, I rarely have to us half of what's in this bag but I'm of the mentality "better safe that sorry". However, as the girls get older I'm looking into creating a diaper/emergency/family kit in the back of our Jeep like the one below.
Once Savannah is 1 (in October) I have high hopes of being able to have the Jeep set up so that I can just have some diapers and a couple snacks and FINALLY carry a purse again :)
So tell me...what's in your diaper bag? Post a video, comment, reply with a blog post...I'd love to see, I'm still obsessed with these subjects!!!

Well we didn't go to Michigan or Ohio but they came to us. Brandon (Ohio) and Dawn (Michigan) have been apart of my life for as long as I can remember. I met Brandon on Cinco De Mayo years ago and we were just a match from the start, literally the male version of me. Dawn was actually introduced to me by dating Brandon. I always hated Brandon's girls friends but Dawn I fell in love with. She's amazing, smart, funny and so just well, great!
Since I got married Brandon has been traveling the world and being a globe trotter, where as Dawn moved back to Michigan to finish her grad work. The last time they saw the girls was when Hannah about Savannah's age now (7 months). I was so excited for them to meet Savannah and to see how Hannah had grown!
Although it took a couple hours for Hannah to warm up she finally did and it was great! We had such a good time visiting with them, eating, drinking and catching up. I only got a couple pics before they left because I was in the moment but I can't wait for the next visit and how different the girls will be again.
Friends and friendships definitely change trough marriage and kids, however, no matter how far away or how long in between seeing each other, they are a part of me and always family.
So I went to Old Navy yesterday, with every intention of buying something for me and of course I walked out with yoga pants and flip flops for me and a wardrobe for the girls (well not really) but I definitely found some cute stuff for them.
For Hannah I've been obsessed with getting her Hello Kitty for some reason, even though she's totally on an Elmo kick. Hannah picked out this Elmo t-shirt all by herself with the saying "Elmo Loves Me", totally adorable. I also grabbed this cute Hello Kitty t-shirt with a red, white and blue theme to it, she's definitely going to be sporting this at our upcoming Memorial Day BBQ. Finally, for Fourth of July, how freaking cute is this blue dress with stars and Hello Kitty on it? I mean it's to die for and she can totally wear it all summer but for the 4th it's just perfect!
The next thing that I found were these 2 rompers with a geometric print on them, one in orange and one in blue. I've been having issues with Hannah keeping her diaper on recently, she will take her pants off and she's figured out the zip up pajamas and EVEN has worked the buttons on the onesies I was using to keep her at bay. I'm putting my faith in these rompers that she won't be able to escape out of her diaper since it's all one piece and a little more tricky. Plus, they are great for the warmer weather, and what mom doesn't want a one piece? I might go back and get more or order more online to have as back ups for spills or accidents in the car and in the diaper bag.
Finally, for both the girls they really needed a bathing suit for the summer. Last summer Hannah was almost 1 so obviously her old swimsuit won't work and it won't work for Savannah either so I actually ended up getting them both new swim wear for the summer. Hopefully we can get one of those plastic wade pools from Wal-Mart, although we do plan on going to the pool quite a bit as well. For Hannah I found this super cute pink with white stripe suit with a blue trim. It does that criss-cross thing in the back so she won't be able to take it off (noticing a theme here?). Savannah I of course had to get the most girly thing out there, this pink and white polka dot suit with a tutu and flower attached work amazing with these matching sandals (and additional clear jellies as a back up). I can't wait to get the girls out in the pool this summer and show off their absolute cuteness :)
The kids/baby section was having a 30% off sale until the 22nd so I'm
glad I stopped in when I did. I feel like I got some cute things and I
mean Savannah's swimsuit alone is reason enough to validate this
shopping spree :) hope you guys enjoyed and will get out there and grab
some cute things for your kiddos!
